On the occasion of world heritage day, a walk was organized by the municipal corporation of Vadodara city and students from VDA were invited to showcase their work on the old city of Vadodara. Some students from the Urban Design studio who had their site in the old city of Vadodara displayed their research work and model at the Mandvi gate which is the center of the four quadrants of the old city.
Students of VDA have always tried to make an effort to address and support the needs of the city. Our concern for conserving and documenting our city heritage has helped us stand out of the lot. We participate in almost all the heritage day celebrations through rallies, walks and exhibitions in the previous years.
On April 18, 2016, early in the morning students took panels and the model to Mandvi Gate, where they were overwhelmed by the response of the city. People from all backgrounds gathered to check out the bird’s eye view of the four quadrants and tried to identify their houses on the model. Also, a lot of issues and concerns regarding the development in the old city were discussed in an open forum which received participation from government officials as well. The work displayed was very well appreciated by the Municipal Commissioner of Vadodara Mr. H.S. Patel and City Mayor, Mr. Bharat Dangar who is seen in the photographs enjoying a dialogue with their fellow colleagues as well as the common men.
